Multimodal transportation

When one type of transport is not enough, Speedixa creates efficient logistics chains. We combine road, sea, rail and air capabilities to ensure your cargo arrives on time and within budget.

Solutions for multimodal and intermodal transportation

Multimodal transportation allows several modes of transport to be combined into one logistics chain. This is especially relevant for international delivery, complex routes, container cargo, long-distance shipments and situations where a single mode of transport does not provide the optimal result in terms of time or cost.

Speedixa develops routes based on the specifics of the cargo, point of departure, destination country, delivery deadlines, budget and documentation requirements. We combine road, sea, rail and air solutions to ensure reliable delivery without unnecessary downtime or inefficient sections of the route.

The client receives a clear transportation plan, coordination of all stages, cargo monitoring in transit and manager support at every step — from route planning to final delivery.

We combine transport modes for your route

For multimodal transportation, we select not just one mode of transport, but an efficient logistics solution. Depending on the destination, deadlines, budget and cargo characteristics, the route may include road delivery, a sea container, a rail section, an air freight stage, warehouse handling and customs support.

This approach helps reduce costs, minimize risks, improve delivery predictability and adapt logistics to the real needs of the business.

Why is a multimodal approach better than direct transport?

Direct air delivery is often too expensive, while fully sea-based transport is too slow for modern business needs. That is why we use combined logistics solutions, such as sea + road, rail + road or other optimal route combinations. This approach helps find the right balance between cost, delivery time and reliability. As a result, your business remains competitive, reduces logistics costs and maintains service quality, supply predictability and supply chain stability.

Multimodal transportation across Europe and international destinations

Multimodal transportation is comprehensive cargo delivery using several modes of transport within one logistics chain: road, sea, rail and air. This format is especially in demand in international logistics, when it is important to select the optimal route based on delivery time, budget, cargo type, documentation requirements and border crossing conditions. Speedixa organizes multimodal freight transportation for manufacturers, importers, exporters, distributors, trading companies, e-commerce businesses and industrial enterprises. We analyze the direction, shipment volume, urgency, cargo specifics, the need for transshipment, warehouse storage, customs support and delivery to the final recipient.

Unlike transportation by a single mode of transport, international multimodal transportation allows different route sections to be flexibly combined. Cargo can be delivered by road to a terminal, then shipped in a sea container, transported by rail and delivered by road to the recipient’s warehouse at the final stage. Multimodal transportation is especially effective when one mode of transport does not provide the optimal result in terms of delivery time, cost or route availability. Road delivery is convenient for the first and last mile, sea transport is cost-effective for large shipments, rail transport is suitable for stable long-distance routes, and air freight is used for urgent and valuable cargo.

This delivery format is suitable for equipment, industrial goods, automotive components, raw materials, FMCG, retail goods, e-commerce, construction materials, spare parts, textiles and household appliances. For small shipments, the LCL format can be used, when the cargo occupies part of a container or is shipped as consolidated freight. For large shipments, FCL transportation with a full container is used. If road delivery across Europe is required, the route can include standard cargo delivery, FTL, LTL, pallet delivery and transportation of commercial shipments. If the route is complex, the distance is long or the shipment requires consolidation, multimodal logistics helps build a more manageable and economically justified solution.

One of the main advantages of multimodal transportation is the ability to organize delivery in a door-to-door format. The client does not need to separately search for a carrier for each stage, coordinate terminals, contact the port, warehouse or several transport companies. Speedixa builds the entire route: from the sender’s warehouse to the recipient’s warehouse. Depending on the task, the logistics chain may include warehouse logistics, temporary storage, consolidation of several shipments, labeling, repacking, inspection of cargo units, deconsolidation and preparation of cargo for the next stage of transportation. For urgent small shipments, express delivery up to 3.5 t can be used.

Sea freight transportation often becomes the basis of international multimodal routes and is suitable for container cargo, large shipments, regular deliveries, import and export between continents. Railway transport is used for long-distance routes, container cargo and regular deliveries, helping to maintain a balance between cost and delivery time. Air freight is used when delivery speed is the main factor: for urgent components, valuable cargo, product samples, electronic components, spare parts or shipments that affect contract fulfillment. Container logistics is also an important part of multimodal transportation: if the client needs container transportation, we help select the container type, route, terminal, delivery conditions, pickup deadlines, documents and further delivery.

International multimodal transportation is almost always connected with documents, customs procedures and the requirements of different countries. Speedixa helps coordinate documents, check route requirements and reduce the risk of delays at the border, port, airport or terminal. Some cargo requires special conditions: if the cargo is temperature-sensitive, refrigerated transportation can be included in the route, and for dangerous goods, ADR dangerous goods transportation may be required with proper classification, packaging, labeling and documents. Speedixa offers multimodal transportation across Europe and international destinations for companies that value reliability, transparent communication, precise planning and an individual approach. We combine road, sea, rail and air transport, add warehouse logistics, FCL, LCL, transshipment, consolidation, customs support and door-to-door delivery.
